I don’t know if you subscribe to the stars or not, but we have been inundated over the last several years of people talking about the havoc Mercury wreaks when in retrograde. Well guess what? For the next 5 weeks or so, Mercury is in VIRGO, which is the time to get PRODUCTIVE! Here’s what one definition on Google said:
What does it mean when Mercury is in Virgo?
Mercury in Virgo pulls focus to the systems that structure your daily life, health, and work routines. During this time, you may come up with innovative ways to arrange your furniture, or new ideas on how you want to structure your days to better support your well-being.
What better time to get productive than now? The kids are back at school, the nuttiness of summer is over, and it’s time to GET DOWN TO BUSINESS. As you may know, last week I ran a Jumpstart on how to Tame your Task List. I’m super sorry if you were unable to attend because it was WORTH IT! The people there were able to create a master list which they then took down into categories and then interfaced everything with their calendar AND found ways to delegate things that should not be on their plates! It was so freeing to everyone there, and what a perfect way for them to enter the coming weeks with Mercury in Virgo.
I am definitely excited about this change in the atmosphere. I am entering an uptick in my own productivity as we prepare for my UNSTUCK! the event coming up at the end of October, my Prioritize with Power course starting next week, and shoulder season (between my summer and winter sports) being here soon! Let me tell you, I have a lot to do and luckily an incredible team to help me do it all, AND I have a messy desk and office to contend with before all the goodies for event start arriving AND I’m throwing some articles, interviews, and travel into the mix. WHEW!
So where do we start? I have been thinking about how to best serve you in getting productive and focused over the coming weeks so that you can take advantage of the Universe lining up for your success and mine (whether you believe in it or not . . .why not give it a shot?). This is as much for you as it is for me, honestly!
First, the calendar is key. I a newsletter about this a few months ago, and as well, I wrote an article on cleaning up your calendar back in June that you can find HERE.
But really, this whole thing of getting organized is about priorities. How do you decide where to start? And what needs to be done when? For me, right now, I need to get my office picked up, my desk cleaned off, go through my event PowerPoint and “script” and make sure I am applying to speak at some conferences and on Podcasts to keep up visibility. Those are my top things along with writing this for you today! And these are the things that are already on the table, not the ideas rolling around my head! But back to my question of where to start?
First, write the entire list down, like I just did for you above. This is not my master brain dump. There is a lot more to do than the things above. However, these are the most pressing things on my mind and for what is coming up in the next 6 weeks in my business and life.
Second, sit down with the list and make a decision of what order things need to be done in. The mistake people make is that they make the list and then either go to the easiest things first or just jump into it from the top—which isn’t necessarily the most important, it’s just the first thing that popped into their head! Neither of these is effective. If I were to take a look at my list, I believe that the most important thing I need to do before any other is get my office and desk in order so that there is space and organization to handle the rest. Second is applying to speak as many of the applications have deadlines I need to meet, third is going through my event “script” and finally is my PowerPoint. I can’t do the PPT unless I know how I want things to unfold during the three days people will be spending with me!
Third is putting all of these things on the calendar. I had a little GIFT OF TIME today (that’s a topic for another day) as I usually golf on Tuesdays but our course is closed for the day. So, today, I have placed a few of these things on my calendar—such as getting this written for you! But seriously, I also have put space to get started on all of these things on the calendar over the next few days. IF YOU DON’T PUT IT ON THE CALENDAR, IT WILL NOT GET DONE EFFICIENTLY OR IN A TIMELY MANNER. No planning equals no productivity. I am serious about this!
Fourth is executing the plan. You must engage in the things you need to do and not ignore them. If you put picking up the office on the calendar at noon on Thursday for 30 minutes, then DO THAT! Don’t tell yourself you don’t feel like it and it’s not really that important. You wouldn’t have made it a priority in the first place if it weren’t. Instead, if you don’t feel like doing it, set yourself a reward. Such as: “When I am done picking up and organizing my office for 30 minutes, I’m going to go outside and eat my lunch and take some time for fresh air.” Or, “When I finish this, I am going to call my girlfriend I’ve been meaning to call for the last few weeks and talk to her for 15 minutes.” Or whatever you want as a reward! Incentivize yourself to get these things done so your back isn’t against the wall.
There is so much more I can tell you and help you with as far as taking advantage of the time that Mercury is in Virgo—you may even FEEL LIKE getting organized and productive! At least from here, you can get going!
What I do want to do is invite you, from my heart, to my event in October because THERE I can pour even more into you and truly get to know you better!
