Over the last four weeks or so, I’ve been hearing many business owners talk about business being slow or different than it’s been in a while. A lot of us tend to see things slow down a bit in the summer compared to the rest of the year. But for whatever reason, this year feels a little different. That’s why it’s so important for us to be consistent, especially when things feel slow.
Here’s the deal. When things feel slow, it’s tempting to check out or do anything but work on your business. But here’s what is most important to remember — what you do NOW directly impacts what happens in three months. SERIOUSLY. And what you’re experiencing today is a result of actions you took three months ago. It’s the 90-Day Rule in business. (It also applies to working out, eating, and most of life.) The actions you take today will come to fruition in two to three months.
The problem is that we are impatient and live in a society of instant gratification. And business doesn’t work that way. We have to put in the work and keep putting in the work so that every 90-day cycle stays strong and steady. It doesn’t mean we don’t have dips or slow times. It means that we are paying attention and can identify what is working and what is not.
Here are some ways to utilize the 90-Day Rule:
- Analyze what is happening right now in your business. Whether things are great or you feel like things are slow, in order to see WHY, go back two to three months and look at what you were doing then that affected the outcome you’re getting now. You’ll likely find an explanation. As I watch my coaches and their businesses (both have million-plus businesses), I see how much they do and how things are always moving in their businesses.
- Create a marketing calendar and back it out 90 days for each launch you have, whether it’s a workshop, a program, a webinar, an event, or a sale or special of some sort. Give people time to plan and get it on their calendar, and engage with you and your business.
- Hire employees. When you bring someone on, be sure to create a 90-day plan of training and evaluation with milestones/goals every 30 days. This will keep you all engaged and communicating and gives you time to know if they are truly a good fit for the job or the company.
The point is that we need to keep going even when things feel hard. Intentional Action and patience around that action are KEY for you to have growth and to get back on track for your business.
