Okay, I admit it—I’m a TV junkie. Shhhhh .. .don’t tell anyone! The great thing is that because of my guilty pleasure, I have a BLOG to share with you! Over the last couple of weeks, I started watching The Voice. If you’ve never watched, here’s a little information. It’s all about finding the next big voice—I’m not sure you could’ve figured that one out. The show starts out over the first few weeks with BLIND auditions, meaning that the coaches don’t get to see who is auditioning—they only get to listen. So the impression is all about the talent of those auditioning and not their looks. As I was watching over the last few weeks, I was (am still) so impressed by these singers/artists. They are LAYING IT ALL ON THE LINE. How hard do you think it would be to audition or present yourself in front of celebrities who may even be your idols? Yet, they submit their application, get chosen to audition and then go out on stage alone and put everything they’ve got out there.
All this leads me ask you something—are you LAYING IT ALL ON THE LINE? If so, what are you doing? How are you getting your brave on? What gives you the jitters? What makes you say, “Oh man, I really don’t want to do that but know I need to”? What are you doing that others aren’t willing to do? If you’re not, why aren’t you? What’s the worst thing that could happen?
For me, it’s all about picking up the phone, but I know I have to do it, and here’s how I know why. A couple of months ago, I was signed up for a free seminar and had decided not to attend—I was tired and busy. However, a week before the event, the PRESENTER himself called me on the phone to confirm that I was going to be there and to tell me about the training. What do you think happened? I WENT. Not even necessarily because of the content—it was the phone call!! BIG LESSON for Julie. So here I sit today getting ready to pick up that phone and ASK people to come attend my workshop, my seminar, my whatever. Not an e-mail, not a text . . .a phone call—up close and personal.
What can you do to lay it all on the line? What do you feel you must do but just can’t? What will it take for you to leap? Lack of clients? Lack of money? A decline in motivation and passion? Do you want to succeed? Do you want to grow? Then you MUST be willing to lay it out there. Go out and perform your blind audition.
Here are a few tips on how to force the issue:
- Tell someone what you must do that you are afraid to do.
- Tell that same someone WHEN you are going to do it.
- Make a phone or coffee appointment with that same someone after the WHEN so you can share with them HOW it went.
This is how ACCOUNTABILITY and SUPPORT work, people! No one can do it for you, and I can’t tell you how to do it—I can only tell you that you must say it out loud, and you must PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE.
So what is your big scary thing? What are you going to do about it? When will you do it? Feel free to share it with me! I’LL ask you how it’s going. I DARE you to go out, put your BRAVE on, and get it done. Don’t be afraid to put it all on the line!
